How to get car rental API?

The main providers of car rental APIs are global distribution systems (GDSs): Sabre, Amadeus, and Travelport. You should contact them directly to gain access and receive and API key.
It may be a challenging task for a small business to get full access to GDSs solutions, so you can consider traveltech providers that support car rental connection like Trawex or Travelpro.
There’s also some support at online travel agencies (Skyscanner, Priceline, etc). To access those, you normally must use affiliate partner contacts. Finally, one of the largest car rental suppliers, Avis, has a public API.
Besides APIs, many suppliers support affiliate links and banners, if that works for you. You may check car rental connectivity options in our article in more detail.

So if we want to get connected directly with the car rental agencies what should we do? AVIS has an open API. What about the rest? Where do Cartrawler and Carnect get their content from? Can we get APIs directly from car rental agencies?
Thanks a lot

Hi Mike,
Thank you for the good question.
Both Cartrawler and Carnect are car rental data aggregators.
Cartrawler B2B travel technology platform consolidates international car rental and ground transportation brands including buses, chauffeurs, and taxi transfers from over 2,000 travel retail providers in 50,000 locations. Cartrawler openly claims collaboration with such car rental agencies as AVIS, Enterprise, Hertz, Dollar, Sixt, and Budget. For more details, you better contact them directly with the inquiry.
Now, Carnect’s partners portfolio is over 500 car rental companies in 170 countries and 30.000 locations. Among their suppliers, in addition to AVIS, Enterprise, Hertz, Dollar, and Sixt, they also mention Alamo, Europcar, National, Thrifty, OK Rent a Car, Record Go, Goldcar, and Centauro. But again, it’s not their extensive list.
Carnect offers the following integration options:
- API to integrate their car rental product into your system
- booking engine in the form of a white label
- full native and HTML5 integration options to integrate car products and services into a native mobile app
If you decide to integrate directly with each separate car rental agency, it will depend on what connectivity options they are able to offer. Mind that not all of them have APIs. In our article, we tell how to connect to the major car rental suppliers. So, among them only Avis, as you said, has a free API. Dollar and Thrifty, Enterprise Holdings, and Auto Europe have affiliate programs, Hertz operates through GDSs, while Sixt provides partners with banners, buttons, and text links. So in case, a desired car rental agency doesn’t offer an API, you can try to work it out yourself or leverage the existing solutions like Cartrawler and Carnect.
Let us know if you have any other questions left.

Do you have some good examples of Trawex? Seems to be scammers, as we paid 4000 for carr ental API and recieved nothing. In the end of integration of the "API" that doesn't much with their demo they ask us to include payment information of the clients wich is transfered via text areas to the third parties and not through the safe payment gateway. Support doesn't answer. As we fund them thanks to this website
