About AltexSoft

We are looking for a senior engineer to take technical ownership of the release process for two large open-source infrastructure products, maintained on behalf of a US enterprise software vendor. This is deliberately not a feature-building role: the work is vulnerability remediation, dependency and runtime upgrades, keeping builds passing across all supported platforms, and shipping a small number of thoroughly validated releases each year.

About Project

You will act as the technical owner of the release train and as the client's primary engineering contact, which means the position combines deep hands-on work in Go and Erlang/OTP with direct, English-language communication with the customer's package, product, and documentation teams. You will also guide and review a mid-level engineer working alongside you, sharing knowledge so that no critical area of the codebase depends on one person.

You Have

  • 5+ years in backend, platform, or release engineering
  • Production Go experience in a large, multi-service codebase, modules, dependency management, testing
  • Genuine hands-on Erlang/OTP: reading, patching, compiling, and releasing services; comfortable with rebar3 and dependencies pinned to forked repos and branches which is the most demanding part of the role, passing familiarity isn't enough
  • Practical vulnerability-management experience: reading advisories and scanner output (OSV, Dependabot, Snyk, or similar), reasoning about transitive risk, and choosing between patching, upgrading, and replacing a component
  • Demonstrated ownership of releases for a shipped product: version strategy, channel promotion, changelogs, go/no-go decisions
  • Solid Linux fundamentals, shell scripting, Docker
  • Persistence to unpick long, uninformative build failures
  • Experience mentoring and reviewing other engineers' work
  • English at C1, written and spoken, for direct client communication
  • Comfort working autonomously with low supervision — quiet stretches, then intense release periods
  • Experience using AI coding assistants (Cursor, Copilot, or similar) day to day

Would be a plus

  • Experience in a large configuration-management or infrastructure-automation ecosystem, packaging toolchains, release automation, verification suites
  • Ruby and Bundler; hosted CI/CD platforms and pipeline maintenance
  • OpenResty/Lua, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, Nginx
  • Experience supporting products in maintenance mode or nearing end-of-life
  • Experience assembling air-gapped release bundles for enterprise customers
  • Awareness of FIPS-validated cryptography constraints on upgrades; declarative database migration tooling
  • Experience building AI-powered solutions or integrating AI pipelines/APIs

You Are Going To

  • Own the release train end to end for both products: dependency bumps, build, test, package, promotion from unstable to stable, and technical release notes
  • Triage vulnerability reports, judge exploitability and severity, and choose the remediation route, patch, upgrade, replace, or defer within agreed limits on certified cryptography, OS compatibility, and offline distribution bundles
  • Handle Go dependency work across roughly thirty microservices: module and lockfile updates, runtime upgrades, protobuf/gRPC regeneration, and fixing whatever breaks
  • Maintain in-house forks of unmaintained Erlang libraries: merge upstream security fixes, reconcile local patches, manage build configuration and lockfiles, and re-pin floating branches to fixed commits
  • Decide how to replace deprecated or end-of-life libraries within agreed limits, escalating anything with architectural impact to the client
  • Coordinate release sign-off with the client's packaging, product, and documentation teams; mentor and review a mid-level engineer, transferring knowledge of the forks and packaging pipeline
