About AltexSoft

We are looking for a Middle Release Engineer who enjoys owning the machinery that turns source code into shipped artifacts. You will join a small, focused engineering group that keeps two mature open-source infrastructure products secure and releasable for a US-based enterprise software vendor.

About Project

You'd join a small group keeping two mature open-source infrastructure products secure and releasable for a US-based enterprise software vendor. This is maintenance, not product development: your domain is everything between a merged security fix and a published release package definitions, build pipelines, routine dependency and runtime updates, and the validation suites that prove a build is safe to promote. You'll work alongside a Senior Release Engineer who leads the engagement technically.

You Have

  • 3+ years in release, build, or platform engineering or backend engineering where you genuinely owned builds and pipelines
  • Hands-on application packaging: Habitat or Omnibus preferred, or a comparable system (RPM/DEB/FPM, Bazel, Nix, multi-stage Docker) plus real appetite for new packaging tooling
  • Practical CI/CD skills like Buildkite, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins, at the level of authoring and debugging pipeline configuration, not just pressing "run"
  • Confident Ruby and Bundler skills for maintaining dependencies in an existing codebase
  • Working-level Go: reading the code, updating modules, running and interpreting test results ( a full-time Go experience isn't expected)
  • Ability to run and triage integration and end-to-end test suites — digging through logs, reproducing failures, telling infrastructure noise from genuine regressions
  • Solid Linux fundamentals, shell scripting, Docker, and docker-compose
  • Experience using AI coding assistants (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar) day to day
  • Self-sufficiency: moving well-defined tasks forward between syncs, with clear written updates and no need for close supervision

Would be a plus

  • Experience building AI-powered solutions or integrating AI pipelines/APIs
  • Basic familiarity with Erlang and rebar3
  • Prior exposure to the Chef tooling ecosystem: Habitat, Omnibus, release automation, functional test harnesses
  • Maintaining build-time dependencies for Angular and Node applications
  • Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Nginx/OpenResty
  • Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools
  • Local environment tooling (Vagrant or similar); database migration tooling such as Sqitch

You Are Going To

  • Own build and packaging across both products: maintain package plans and software definitions, integrate pre-built base packages from the customer's package team, and keep builds green on every supported platform
  • Own the CI side: maintain build pipelines and release automation, resolve build failures quickly, separate flaky infrastructure from real regressions, and keep pipeline run times reasonable
  • Carry out routine dependency and runtime bumps across the Go and Ruby stacks, module manifests, gem and Bundler updates in the identity service and CLI tooling
  • Run release validation, functional test harnesses, unit and integration suites, basic deployment and UI smoke checks and report outcomes the tech lead can sign off on
  • Support promotion of builds from unstable to stable channels and help draft the technical portion of release notes
  • Act as second pair of hands during release windows and bus-factor cover for the senior engineer
  • If the add-on scope is activated: maintain build-time Angular (~v19) and Node dependencies for the web dashboard
