Qantas–Malaysia Codeshare Deepens Australian Reach

Qantas and Malaysia Airlines have announced a new bilateral codeshare agreement.
Qantas will place its code on Malaysia Airlines domestic flights within Malaysia, connecting Kuala Lumpur with cities like Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, and Penang, as well as flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
In turn, Malaysia Airlines will add its code on select Qantas domestic flights to Australian cities such as Hobart, Darwin, Canberra, and Launceston.
The partnership leverages both carriers' membership in the oneworld alliance, providing passengers with reciprocal frequent flyer benefits, status credits, and access to premium lounges and services through both networks.
Recently, Malaysia Airlines upgraded its Australian routes with a new Airbus A330neo aircraft and increased flight frequencies, reflecting the goal of strengthening its Australian presence.
The partnership begins on October 26, 2025, with tickets already available for booking.
Overall, 2025 has been quite a challenging year for Qantas. In August, the airline received a $59 million fine for firing ground staff across the country’s major airports amid the COVID-19 crisis.
Additionally, Qantas experienced a major data breach in June, potentially exposing about 6 million customer records, which led to a 15 percent reduction in performance bonuses for the airline’s executive team.
