American Airlines has begun rolling out a new AI agent that allows travelers to find flights by describing the type of trip or experience they want, rather than searching for specific destinations.

The tool is available to about 50 percent of visitors on the airline’s website, with plans for a complete rollout soon, including an in-app release.

The airline is currently analyzing usage patterns and traveler requests to improve the tool’s accuracy.

The agent interprets natural language prompts and then curates a trip by identifying suitable airports and flights that best match the user’s requests.

This move aligns with the industry trend, where personalized trip planning and AI travel agents are reshaping customer booking journeys.

For example, about a month ago, LATAM Airlines Group launched a new AI travel agent for trip planning across Latin America. It leverages generative AI technology powered by Google’s Vertex AI and similarly assists users in trip planning through natural, conversational interactions.
