Air Canada and CUPE Resolve Strike, Flights to Resume Gradually

As of August 19, 2025, Air Canada reached a tentative agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), ending a strike that started on August 16 by over 10,000 flight attendants. The strike centered on disputes over wages and compensation for unpaid ground duties.
Despite a Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) ruling declaring the strike illegal and ordering a return to work, CUPE leaders insisted on maintaining their position, demanding fair compensation.
Following intense mediation efforts, a tentative agreement was finalized. The specific terms remain undisclosed and are to be presented to CUPE members for approval.
Air Canada has announced plans to gradually resume flights, with full service expected to be restored in 7 to 10 days. Passengers affected by cancellations were offered refunds or credits for future travel.
