Aeromexico Adds Business Economy to Win Over More Premium Travelers

Aeromexico has announced plans to introduce a new “business economy” class, designed to sit between standard economy and its fully lie-flat business class.
The goal is to provide travelers with a more comfortable, premium experience at a lower price than traditional business class, while also enhancing Aeromexico’s loyalty program and overall competitive positioning.
The new cabin section will feature approximately 30 seats per aircraft and is expected to debut primarily on the airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
This layout adjustment reflects a growing industry trend, as carriers like United Airlines and Delta Air Lines are increasingly redesigning cabins to offer more choice and tap into rising demand for mid-tier premium travel products.
The new seating option is part of the airline’s broader investment plan, funded by proceeds from its recent US IPO. In addition to upgrading cabins, the program includes modernizing interiors, improving in-flight technology, and enhancing VIP lounges.
Also recently, the US Court of Appeals temporarily blocked a US DOT order that would have required Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico to dissolve their joint venture by January 1, 2026.
A three-judge panel ruled that the DOT’s directive will be paused while the court performs a more extensive review. For now, the decision allows Delta and Aeromexico to continue coordinating on scheduling, marketing, and route planning across their networks.
