Interline e-ticket
An interline e-ticket (IET) is an electronic ticket that allows a passenger to combine flights from multiple airlines under a single booking. This arrangement is made possible through an interline agreement. The IET simplifies travel by combining all flight segments on one itinerary, even when different airlines operate the flights.
Interline e-tickets are especially useful for international or multi-leg journeys where no single airline services the entire route. For example, a traveler might fly with one full-service carrier (FSC) from Lagos to London, then take a connecting flight with another partner airline to reach a final destination. Instead of booking each leg separately, the passenger receives one e-ticket and one passenger name record (PNR).
With an IET, passengers only need to check in once at the start of the trip, and their baggage is transferred automatically during layovers to the final destination.
While codeshare agreements also involve multiple airlines, interline e-tickets differ because each flight is operated and branded separately, rather than appearing as part of a single airline’s network.
