Mid-office

A mid-office or middle office is an operational unit that serves as an intermediary between the front office (customer-facing activities) and the back office (finance and administrative functions).

The mid-office is responsible for processing and managing large volumes of data generated by front-office activities, such as bookings, transactions, and customer interactions. This includes validating data accuracy and maintaining data integrity across various systems and databases. Then, the mid-office provides the information to the back office for administrative tasks, such as accounting and regulatory compliance.

There are software solutions that help streamline mid-office processes. Travel management companies (TMCs) utilize such systems as part of their infrastructure to manage travel programs for their corporate clients. Mid-office systems often integrate with booking platforms, GDSs, accounting software, and other tools for seamless data flow and real-time information exchange.
