Airlines for Europe (A4E)
Airlines for Europe (A4E) is a trade association representing European airline interests at the European level. Formed in 2016, A4E was created after several major carriers left the now-dissolved Association of European Airlines (AEA).
The group includes both full-service and low-cost carriers, making it one of the most inclusive airline alliances in Europe. Members range from legacy airlines like Lufthansa to budget operators like Ryanair and easyJet. This broad membership allows A4E to speak for a large share of the European air travel market.
A4E’s priorities include
- reinforcing airline competitiveness by working with policy makers to create fairer conditions for European airlines to compete globally;
- ensuring the costs that European airlines pay to use EU airport infrastructure are fair, clearly explained, and ultimately benefit passengers;
- Supporting the Single European Sky (SES) rules to help build a single European aviation market; and
- reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 10 percent through improved airspace efficiency, in line with European Green Deal targets.
A4E works directly with European institutions such as the European Commission and the European Parliament. While the International Air Transport Association (IATA) represents the global airline industry and sets international standards, A4E focuses specifically on European policy and regulatory issues.
