Known Traveler Number (KTN)

A Known Traveler Number (KTN) is a unique identification number assigned to travelers approved for a trusted traveler program, such as TSA PreCheck or Global Entry. These programs are designed to expedite security and customs processes for pre-approved, low-risk travelers.

The KTN is issued by the US authorities and is primarily utilized within the US travel system.

A traveler must first apply to a trusted traveler program. Once approved, they receive a KTN, usually a nine-digit code. This number remains valid for several years, depending on the program (for example, TSA PreCheck membership lasts five years from the approval date).During booking, the traveler enters their KTN on the OTA or airline website or by phone with an agent. After that, the traveler is granted access to expedited screening lanes.
