Generative AI models are machine learning systems designed to create new content, such as images, text, audio, or video, by learning patterns from existing data. Instead of just classifying or analyzing input data, these models generate original outputs that resemble real-world examples.

These are some common types of generative AI models.

  • Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs): These use two deep learning models—a generator and a discriminator—that compete to produce realistic outputs, such as images or videos. The generator creates content, while the discriminator tries to distinguish between real and generated content.
  • Transformer-based models: Examples include GPT and Claude. These models are highly effective for natural language processing tasks, learning patterns in language to generate coherent and contextually accurate text.
  • Diffusion models: These create realistic images or audio by starting from random noise and gradually refining it into a recognizable output, similar to an artist restoring a painting.
  • Variational Autoencoders (VAEs): These models compress data into a simpler representation (latent space) and then reconstruct it, producing new content that resembles the original data while introducing controlled randomness.

Generative AI models are widely used in various applications, including image creation, text-to-speech, music composition, video generation, text generation, coding generators, data augmentation, and synthetic dataset generation. They form the foundation of many AI tools that produce original and realistic content.

The application of generative AI models continues to grow as organizations integrate them into AI agents, multi-agent systems, and tools that automate creative or analytical work.
