Hawaii Invests $1.9M in Cultural and Sports Events

The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) announced an investment of $1.9 million in 21 flagship festivals and sports events from July 2025 to June 2026.
The investment is part of the Signature Events program, which aims to strengthen state tourism. In partnership with Kilohana, a division of the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, the program prioritizes cultural preservation alongside tourism promotion.
Event selections were based on cultural significance, economic benefit, and community involvement, with a focus on showcasing Hawaii’s traditions, history, cuisine, and natural landscapes.
In addition, HTA is introducing the Hoʻokipa Malihini Initiative, a $397,000 effort supporting live cultural programs (such as hula shows, musician appearances, and storytelling) in key tourist destinations like Waikiki, Hilo, and Kona.
Earlier this summer, Alaska Airlines became the new go-to airline for Hawaii, capturing more traffic with enhanced support from Amex’s loyalty program.
