Transit point
A transit point is an intermediate stop along a travel route where passengers or cargo change planes, trains, etc., before reaching the final destination. These stops are needed because direct routes aren’t always available or practical, especially for long-distance or international travel.
For example, a traveler flying from Portugal to Tokyo might need to transit through airports like Frankfurt or Dubai, as direct flights may be unavailable.
A transit point is a broad term that encompasses layovers and stopovers, which both require connecting flights (mostly common at hub airports) and involve more than one flight leg.
Layovers are shorter stops where passengers typically remain within the airport, often using a transit lounge. In contrast, stopovers involve longer breaks in the journey—lasting over 24 hours for international routes—allowing travelers to leave the airport, explore the city, or rest in a hotel before continuing their trip.
