Order management system (OMS)
An Order Management System (OMS) is a tool for handling the entire lifecycle of a customer order. It centralizes and automates order-related processes such as order capture, tracking, shipping, and post-sale services like exchanges or refunds.
In the context of airline offer and order management, an OMS is used to manage the booking from the moment an offer is accepted and converted into an order, through fulfillment, and possible changes. Its key capabilities include
- a unified shopping basket across all sales channels,
- API integration with third-party inventory,
- context-aware bundles and upsells,
- business rules application, and
- compatibility with legacy systems.
Airlines can use an order-based PSS or integrate their existing PSS with an OMS.
