Flight booking

Flight booking is the process of purchasing an air ticket and reserving a seat for a particular flight. A common scenario involves several main steps:

  1. Flight search,
  2. Choosing and booking a flight and ancillary services,
  3. Payment,
  4. Ticketing, and
  5. Check-in and departure.

At the second stage, the traveler (or agent) sends a booking request to the airline’s central reservation system to check the seat availability and price. If the seat is available, the traveler’s personal details are collected to create a Passenger Name Record (PNR) and enable ticketing.

Ancillaries such as additional baggage, meal choice, or seat preference can be selected in the course of the booking process or added later.
