Flight delay compensation

Flight delay compensation is a form of compensation that passengers may be entitled to when their flight is significantly delayed due to reasons within the airline’s control.

It compensates travelers for the inconvenience, financial losses, and disruptions that occur when airline schedules break down.

The way flight delay compensation works depends on local laws and airline policies. For example, in the European Union, passengers receive cash compensation when a flight is delayed by three hours or more, unless the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances such as severe weather or air traffic control restrictions.

Beyond direct compensation, airlines may also provide care during the delay, which can include meals, drinks, hotels, and transportation if the delay stretches overnight.

In the US, compensation for delays is not standardized, but airlines often provide vouchers, rebooking options, or accommodations based on their policies.
