Active segment

An active segment is a booking that has been reserved and confirmed directly with the travel provider’s reservation system. It represents finalized bookings with determined seat assignments and travel details. The traveler receives a confirmation email or fare receipt indicating their flight reservation is confirmed and secured.

This term exists in the context of global distribution systems (GDS) to serve as proof of a finalized purchase and distinguish confirmed reservations from tentative ones. 

Travel agents and booking systems need the status of segments (active or passive) to maintain clarity and organization in the booking process.
