Spirit Cuts Deep, Furloughs 1,800 Flight Attendants

Spirit Airlines has announced plans to furlough approximately 1,800 flight attendants (representing about one-third of its cabin crew) to align staffing with sharply reduced flight schedules as part of the ongoing cost-cutting measures.
The layoffs are scheduled to begin on December 1, 2025.
In August 2025, Spirit filed for Chapter 11 protection for the second time in less than a year, after emerging from the first in March 2025.
Despite restructuring debt and raising equity earlier in the year, the airline continued to experience mounting losses, particularly driven by weak demand in leisure travel markets.
Spirit also plans to furlough 270 pilots starting this November and demote 140 captains in October to further reduce costs.
