Spirit Cuts 40 More Routes, Hires Former JetBlue VP

Spirit Airlines is set to suspend approximately 40 routes in November 2025, representing a 25 percent reduction announced earlier this month.
The change is part of a major restructuring plan, which comes amid Spirit’s ongoing financial troubles and second bankruptcy filing within the year.
Concurrently, the airline has appointed Andrea Lusso as the new Vice President of Network Planning to lead the overhaul of Spirit’s route network.
Lusso has over ten years of experience at JetBlue in the same role and, most recently, spent nine months managing supply chain and network planning at Amazon Air.
The planned route suspensions focus on seasonal and less profitable markets, including services in Hartford, Connecticut, and Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Spirit will focus on stronger markets like South Florida, Orlando, Las Vegas, and Dallas, where it expects to improve financial performance.
Additionally, over 1,800 flight attendants and approximately 270 pilots are being furloughed as part of cost-cutting measures.
