Spirit Airlines Eyes $219M Profit in 2027, Expects Post-Bankruptcy Revival

Spirit Airlines has announced that it expects to return to profitability in 2027, following the completion of its ongoing restructuring process. The airline projects a net profit of approximately $219 million in 2027, marking its first full-year profit since 2019.
The ultra-low-cost carrier continues to face financial losses in the near term, forecasting losses of approximately $800 million in 2025.
As part of restructuring, Spirit is downsizing its fleet and reducing overall capacity by 25 percent to cut costs. The company is also furloughing 270 pilots and plans to furlough approximately 1,800 flight attendants, who account for roughly one-third of its cabin crew, starting December 1, 2025.
Spirit’s 2027 profit and operational outlook signal a turnaround after a challenging few years, including its second bankruptcy filing in August 2025.
The airline’s management believes that the current restructuring will position Spirit for sustainable growth in the years ahead, with an expected network expansion from 2027 to 2029, following the reduction phase in 2026.
A few days ago, Spirit got the green light from the bankruptcy court to receive debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing of up to $475 million. The court also approved a restructuring plan with AerCap that involves rejecting leases on 27 planes and an additional $150 million investment from AerCap.
