Lufthansa to Cut 4,000 Jobs by 2030, Welcomes AI Automation

Lufthansa has announced plans to reduce its administrative workforce by 4,000 worldwide by 2030.
This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance efficiency through the use of AI, automation, and digital transformation.
Lufthansa stated that these job cuts will primarily impact back-office roles, rather than operational staff, with the majority of reductions expected in Germany.
The airline group noted that many tasks will become redundant due to overlapping processes and increased adoption of AI-driven automation, which will lead to more streamlined operations and cost savings over the next five years.
Lufthansa emphasized that reductions will be implemented gradually. The company will consult with labor unions to comply with Germany’s labor protection laws.
Earlier this month, Lufthansa also announced plans to overhaul its organizational structure and processes, centralizing financial management, network planning, and cross-group collaboration across Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels.
