IndiGo-China Southern Codeshare Ends 5-Year Travel Hiatus

IndiGo and China Southern Airlines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a codeshare partnership, pending regulatory approval.
The agreement marks a significant milestone in restoring air connectivity between India and China, as both carriers rebuild travel links that were disrupted for more than five years due to the pandemic and geopolitical tensions.
Under the codeshare arrangement, IndiGo passengers will gain access to China Southern’s extensive domestic network beyond Guangzhou, the Chinese carrier’s primary hub. In return, China Southern’s customers will enjoy connections to IndiGo’s network.
The partnership will allow travelers to book a single ticket covering both airlines, benefit from through check-in of baggage, and coordinate flight schedules for smoother transfers.
IndiGo restarted its daily Kolkata–Guangzhou service on October 26, 2025, followed by daily Delhi–Guangzhou flights beginning November 10, 2025, becoming the first Indian airline to resume nonstop service to Mainland China since early 2020.
Meanwhile, China Eastern Airlines has resumed Shanghai–Delhi flights, and China Southern is preparing to restart operations to Delhi and Mumbai soon after.
