Google Integrates Maps into Gemini API

Google announced a major update, integrating Google Maps with its Gemini API to provide more accurate, context-aware information for developers and businesses in the travel industry. This move leverages Google Maps’ vast real-world data to "ground" AI responses, making them more precise and relevant to users.
This integration enables travel apps and platforms to offer users more seamless experiences by improving navigation with accurate traffic conditions, weather forecasts, and local event recommendations. Gemini automatically utilizes Google Maps data to deliver grounded responses when a user query contains geographical context. Applications can generate comprehensive daily itineraries with estimated travel times, operating hours, and personalized recommendations.
The integration is now generally available and supported by Google's latest Gemini models, including Gemini 2.5 Pro, Flash, Flash-Lite, and 2.0 Flash.. The move signifies a broader shift towards using AI to enhance location-based services, promising more personalized and efficient travel solutions for users globally.
Earlier, the US Department of Justice’s long-running antitrust case against Google reached a decision, and as a result, Google remained in control of prioritizing its travel services.
