Expedia to Launch MCP as B2B Revenue Rises 25%

Expedia Group is preparing to launch a B2B Model Context Protocol (MCP)  server in the coming months.

The tool would help business partners connect AI agents to Expedia’s travel inventory. Karen Bolda, chief product and technology officer for Expedia Group B2B, said the MCP solution is expected to go live soon.

MCP is a technical standard that helps AI tools connect with outside systems. AI assistants need access to real prices, availability, booking rules, and supplier data. Expedia’s MCP server could make it easier for partners to use Expedia’s travel supply inside their own apps and websites.

The tool will build on Expedia’s existing APIs

Expedia already gives partners access to travel products through its Rapid APIs. These tools help companies sell or display hotels, flights, cars, and other travel services without building their own full supply network.

The new MCP server would not replace those APIs. It would create a more AI-friendly way to connect to them. That could help partners build AI travel assistants that search Expedia’s inventory, compare options, and support trip planning through a conversational interface.

Partners will keep control of the customer experience

Expedia’s broader AI toolkit is designed for partners that want to offer travel under their own brands. These partners can include loyalty programs, banks, travel sellers, and other companies with large customer bases.

B2B is becoming a bigger growth engine for Expedia

Expedia’s B2B business is growing faster than its consumer business. In the first quarter of 2026, Expedia said total gross bookings rose 13 percent year over year. B2B gross bookings increased 22 percent, while B2B revenue grew 25 percent.

That growth explains why Expedia is investing in partner technology. AI tools could make its B2B platform more useful for companies that want to add travel booking without becoming travel companies themselves.

Expedia is also adding more travel products

Expedia is expanding the supply available through its partner platform. Its latest move was an agreement to acquire CarTrawler, an Ireland-based ground transport technology company. The deal is meant to strengthen Expedia’s car rental, ground transport, and insurance-related capabilities.
