Apple Wallet Adds Digital US Passport and Live Flight Updates

Apple has upgraded its digital wallet, Apple Wallet, with new travel-focused features in the iOS 26 update released earlier in 2025.
The most notable enhancement lets users add a digital version of their US passport to Wallet. This digital passport can be used to verify identity at select TSA checkpoints for domestic flights. While it doesn’t replace the physical passport, it offers travelers a convenient new way to prove their identity digitally.
Currently, the rollout of the digital passport and ID feature is limited to the US, with no immediate plans to extend it internationally.
Apple Wallet’s boarding passes have also been revamped to provide live updates such as flight status and gate changes right on the lock screen. They now also offer quick access to terminal maps, making it easier for travelers to navigate airports, locate gates, or find baggage claim areas.
Additionally, integration with Apple’s Find My network allows passengers to track AirTagged luggage through their boarding passes.
These upgrades aim to streamline travel, reduce the need for physical documents, and speed up airport procedures.
Recently, Apple revealed plans to introduce ads in its Maps app as early as 2026. This feature will allow local businesses to pay for promoted listings within search results, opening a new advertising channel for travel providers such as hotels, car rentals, and tourist attractions.
