Airbnb Tries Airport Pickups as It Expands Beyond Stays and Experiences

Airbnb confirmed it is piloting scheduled private car transfers, including airport pickups, in select cities across EMEA, APAC, and Latin America. The company noted it regularly experiments with new categories to improve the experience for guests and hosts. For now, Airbnb has not shared the pilot city list or a rollout date.
Why Airbnb Is Doing This Now
Airbnb’s airport pickup pilot fits a wider travel-tech trend, how airport transfer and shuttle bookings are typically integrated into travel platforms, from supplier connections to common booking models. Airport pickup is an early “trip moment” where travelers often feel the most friction: arriving late, finding a reliable ride, and managing luggage. If Airbnb can handle that step inside its app, it keeps customers from switching to another platform right after booking a stay. It also creates a new service that can attach to many trips, helping Airbnb earn more per traveler over time.
The Bigger Shift: From Stays to a Trip Platform
Airbnb has clearly signaled a stronger push into hotels, especially boutique and independent properties, to capture trips where a home rental is not available or not the best fit. This fits Airbnb’s push to become more of a travel concierge, not only a place to book homes. Airbnb has been expanding its “beyond stays” story and now reports a broader metric called “nights and seats booked,” which grew 10 percent year over year in the fourth quarter of 2025. That metric signals Airbnb wants investors to track more trip-related transactions, not just accommodation nights.
