Global Indicator (GI)

A Global Indicator (GI) is a two-letter code used in international airline fare construction to identify the routing of a journey.

Rather than simply indicating the origin and destination, the Global Indicator specifies the major route the itinerary follows between regions of the world, such as whether travel crosses the South Atlantic (SA), the North Pacific (PN), or another particular global area.

Because different routings between the same cities can have different fare structures, the Global Indicator helps airline pricing systems determine which fares and rules apply to a specific itinerary.
