Uber’s AI Division Hires Travel Experts for Secret Project

Uber AI Solutions, a new branch of Uber launched in June 2025, has started recruiting travel experts to help train advanced AI systems, according to Skift.

The company posted a LinkedIn job listing seeking US-based travel agents, destination specialists, and operations experts for a three-month freelance assignment tied to a confidential project.

Who Uber is looking for

The posting emphasizes that applicants must be seasoned industry experts.

Uber wants people who understand GDSs, airline and visa rules, rebooking workflows, multi-leg itineraries, and the realities of real-world disruptions. These experts will create difficult scenarios that stress-test an AI model, identify gaps in travel logic, and verify the accuracy of complex travel information.

Skift reports that the work is not for Uber’s own internal products. Instead, Uber is supporting an outside client, whose identity is being kept private due to confidentiality obligations.

Uber is expanding its presence across the travel sector

The company has been strengthening its role in travel, moving beyond go-to airport rides to deeper integrations with airlines, online travel agencies, and loyalty programs.

A recent example of its travel partnerships is the collaboration between Uber and Riyadh Air, linking ride options with the airline’s loyalty program, giving travelers new ways to earn and redeem rewards.

Although these freelance positions are currently limited to US workers, they may point to Uber’s broader ambition to support airlines, online travel agencies, and tourism partners with more integrated mobility solutions.

Making a step toward AI travel agents

Uber is also likely partnering with a larger travel or tech player so it can position itself as the default ground transportation option within future AI travel agent or booking app.

By supplying training data and expertise for an external client’s AI models, Uber gains a strategic opening to weave its ride services directly into automated trip planning. If an AI agent can book flights, hotels, and local transport in one flow, being the built-in choice for airport transfers and in-destination mobility becomes incredibly valuable.
