Uber to Deploy 20K Self-Driving SUVs with Lucid and Nuro

On July 17, 2025, Uber announced a partnership with Lucid Motors and self-driving tech firm Nuro.
Uber will invest $300 million in Lucid to deploy 20,000 Lucid Gravity electric SUVs equipped with Nuro’s Level 4 autonomous “Nuro Driver” system.
The vehicles are expected to enter Uber’s platform in late 2026.
Lucid states that its Gravity SUV offers a 450-mile range and adaptable EV architecture suited for integrating Nuro’s sensors and computing systems. Prototype testing is already underway at Nuro’s facility in Las Vegas.
The announcement triggered an approximate 36 percent surge in Lucid’s stock.
After exiting its in-house AV development in 2020, Uber has taken a partnership-driven approach, collaborating with companies like Nuro, Lucid, Baidu, Pony.ai, and Waymo.
