Uber, Lucid, Nuro Take Robotaxis Public Signaling 2026 Rollout

Lucid Group, Nuro, and Uber have revealed production-intent robotaxi prototypes and confirmed they had started supervised autonomous driving tests on public roads.
Nuro is leading vehicle validation and safety testing ahead of a planned commercial rollout in the San Francisco Bay Area later in 2026.
Technology details
The robotaxis are built on the Lucid Gravity SUV architecture and integrate NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor as the primary onboard compute platform. The autonomous system is supported by a next-generation sensor suite that combines cameras, solid-state lidar, and radar to enable robust perception across varied urban driving conditions.
Uber designed the interior cabin experience, which includes real-time visualization screens that show how the vehicle perceives its surroundings. These displays illustrate detected paths, pedestrians, traffic lights, and planned maneuvers, helping riders understand the system’s decisions.
On the exterior, LED lighting elements communicate vehicle identity and operating status to pedestrians and other road users.
Market impact
This launch represents a major milestone in the partnership announced in July 2025. Under the agreement, Uber plans to deploy more than 20,000 robotaxis over six years, exclusively accessible through the Uber app and owned either by Uber or its operating partners.
The collaboration highlights a broader industry shift toward autonomous mobility, as competitors such as Tesla expand testing in Austin, and Baidu continues to grow its robotaxi fleets.
