Thailand’s $22M Plan to Offer Free 200,000 Flights

Thailand plans to offer free domestic flights to foreign tourists as part of a government initiative to help boost tourism.
The Tourism Ministry’s proposed campaign would provide round-trip domestic tickets to 200,000 foreign travelers. The plan is currently awaiting approval from the Thai cabinet.
This move comes amid a sharp decline in tourist arrivals in 2025 due to safety concerns caused by the Thai–Cambodian conflict. By offering free domestic flights, the government hopes to encourage tourists to visit areas beyond Bangkok and other well-known spots such as Phuket and Pattaya.
Tourism represents about 12 percent of Thailand’s GDP, making the sector vital to the economy.
The plan involves a $22 million investment with projected revenue reaching $245 million. It would allow foreign visitors to receive free domestic tickets when booking their international flight directly or through travel agents.
Participating airlines include Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Bangkok Airways, Thai Lion Air, and Thai Vietjet.
