Luxury Bookings Spike Ahead of Lunar New Year

Trip.com Group has seen a solid rise in bookings during the current Lunar New Year period compared with the same holiday season last year. Overall reservation volumes are up by double digits, highlighting renewed confidence in travel and a desire to make the most of extended holiday time.

Rather than short trips close to home, travelers are increasingly organizing more substantial journeys that span multiple days or even weeks.

Longer stays and long-haul trips drive the surge

According to Trip.com Group, cross-border bookings that include stays of at least seven nights have grown by nearly 40 percent year over year. Long-haul travel demand has expanded even more sharply, rising by over 50 percent.

These figures suggest that people are treating the festive season as an opportunity for in-depth travel, exploring destinations that require more time and planning rather than quick visits.

Demand shifts toward distant, experience-rich destinations

Europe and Oceania have emerged as leading long-haul regions for Asian travelers looking to celebrate the Lunar New Year abroad.

Norway shows particularly dramatic growth among Singapore-based travelers, with bookings increasing by more than 200 percent year over year. The appeal comes from unique experiences, such as chasing the Northern Lights, touring fjord landscapes, and riding scenic rail lines.

Other destinations with accelerating demand include the Maldives, Turkey, Spain, and Mongolia. From China, Australia attracts the largest number of travelers, posting growth of more than 100 percent year over year. Visitors are drawn by landmarks such as the Great Barrier Reef, the Sydney Opera House, and Australia’s vast interior landscapes.

New Zealand is also gaining attention worldwide, with bookings rising nearly 50 percent compared with the previous year.

Travelers upgrade to higher comfort levels

A parallel trend shows travelers increasingly opting for luxury travel. First-class air bookings have jumped by 83 percent year over year, and business-class bookings have increased by 38 percent. Accommodation preferences mirror this pattern, with demand for five-star hotels rising by 59 percent.

In Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam, luxury and upper-midscale hotels now dominate accommodation choices. Five-star hotels alone account for close to or more than half of all stays booked in these markets. When four-star properties are added, upper-tier hotels represent around three-quarters of total accommodation bookings. This demonstrates that travelers are prioritizing comfort, quality, and memorable experiences during holiday trips.

In late 2025, Trip.com partnered with Coras and now allows travelers to purchase tickets for concerts and performances directly through its platform.
