IHCL Expands in Himalayas, Opens Taj Paro Resort and Spa

Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) has opened the 45-key Taj Paro Resort and Spa in Bhutan, marking a significant expansion of the Taj brand across the Himalayan region.
The opening deepens IHCL’s long-term partnership with CG Hospitality Global, a hospitality group with a growing footprint across the Middle East, the Himalayas, and the Indian Ocean region.
Design and guest experience
Located in Paro Valley near Tiger’s Nest Monastery, the resort is designed to attract high-end international travelers looking for a secluded and culturally rich Himalayan experience.
Taj Paro Resort and Spa blends contemporary luxury with traditional Bhutanese architecture. All rooms and suites face the mountains and incorporate local design elements inspired by the surrounding landscape.
The property features the Paro Bar and Vista, an all-day dining restaurant with open kitchens and views toward the monastery. Additional amenities include an indoor heated pool, a fitness center, and the J Wellness Circle spa.
IHCL’s growth strategy
The Bhutan resort launch aligns with IHCL’s broader push into international markets. Recently, Taj Hotels announced a new 300-key hotel in Cairo, establishing its first presence in Egypt.
IHCL currently operates a portfolio of more than 300 hotels and has outlined plans for growth in South Asia and the Himalayan belt. These regions are expected to contribute roughly 30 percent of the company’s portfolio growth by 2030, as IHCL leverages the Taj brand to capture demand for experiential luxury travel.
The move also strengthens Taj’s competitive position against international luxury chains that are expanding their presence in remote and high-end destinations.
