Grand Canyon Fires Burn Over 60,000 Acres, Close the North Rim

In early July 2025, two major wildfires broke out near the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The Dragon Bravo Fire started July 4, followed by the White Sage Fire on July 9.
The Dragon Bravo Fire destroyed the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and numerous other structures, consuming over 13,600 acres. Meanwhile, the White Sage Fire has spread to over 50,000 acres in the nearby Kaibab National Forest.
There have been no reported injuries or fatalities, as all residents and staff evacuated safely.
The North Rim (including all inner-canyon corridor trails like North and South Kaibab, Bright Angel Trail, Phantom Ranch, and associated campgrounds) is closed for the rest of the 2025 season.
The South Rim remains open but under strict restrictions and with smoke affecting air quality. Officials warn visitors to expect very high fire risk and follow guidelines responsibly.
The Dragon Bravo Fire continues to expand and is now around 44,000 acres. The containment has risen to 26 percent thanks to firefighting efforts. The White Sage Fire remains uncontained in the forested areas north of the canyon, but has not entered park grounds yet.
