European Airports Cyberattack Under Investigation, Suspect Arrested

On September 19, 2025, several major European airports, including London Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin Brandenburg, were hit by a cyberattack that disrupted automatic check-in and boarding systems.
As a result, thousands of passengers experienced flight delays, cancellations, and long queues as staff had to switch to manual check-in procedures.
By September 22, some airports were still dealing with residual delays and operational difficulties.
Brussels Airport canceled about half of its flights on September 21 due to continued system disruptions, while Berlin and London Heathrow still relied on partial manual operations.
Law enforcement in the UK and Europe started investigations, and on September 23, a man in his forties was arrested in West Sussex, England. The suspect has been released on conditional bail.
On the same day as the cyberattack, Dallas airports experienced major outages caused by a failure in telecommunication equipment.
The disruption forced American Airlines, the largest carrier at DFW, to cancel more than 200 flights and delay over 500, while Southwest Airlines reported more than 1,100 delays.
