DOT Approves United and JetBlue “Blue Sky” Partnership

On July 29, 2025, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) approved the Blue Sky collaboration between United Airlines and JetBlue Airways. Despite initial objections from Spirit Airlines, which argued the partnership could hurt competition, DOT approved the deal.
Starting in fall 2025, members of United MileagePlus and JetBlue TrueBlue will be able to earn and redeem miles on flights operated across both airlines.
Reciprocal perks include priority boarding, seat upgrades, and same-day standby or flight changes when traveling on either carrier.
Each airline will sell flights operated by the other on its own website and mobile app, while maintaining independent pricing and scheduling management.
JetBlue will grant United access to seven daily round-trip slots at JFK Terminal 6. In addition, United and JetBlue will swap eight flight timing slots at Newark.
