Canadians Still Avoid US Trips, Travel to Other Countries Instead

Statistics Canada’s new data has revealed ongoing reluctance among Canadians to travel to the United States.
In October 2025, approximately 1.4 million Canadians returned home by car from the US, marking a sharp drop of 30.5 percent compared to October 2024.
Air travel from the US to Canada also decreased substantially, with nearly 437,300 Canadian residents flying back—down almost 24 percent from the previous year. In contrast, air travel returns from other countries increased by 6.8 percent, reaching about 964,200 in October.
Meanwhile, total international arrivals to Canada, combining both returning residents and visitors arriving by air and car, fell to 4.6 million in October 2025, a decrease of 12.6 percent compared to the previous year.
In September 2025, air travel from Canada to the US also fell 27 percent year-over-year, continuing a pattern seen in recent months.
This decline reflects Canadians’ hesitation to travel to the US, influenced by rising travel costs and political tensions between the two countries.
