Brazil Nears 9M Visitors in 2025, Almost Double YoY

Brazil has reached a record tourism milestone in 2025, surpassing 7.09 million international visitors in the first nine months of the year.
This represents a growth of more than 45 percent compared with the same period in 2024 and reflects one of the strongest tourism expansions the country has ever experienced. September 2025 alone brought in 570,934 international arrivals.
Rio de Janeiro has played a central role in this surge. The city welcomed more than 1.2 million international tourists in the first half of 2025, a 52.1 percent jump compared with the same period in 2024.
International visitors spent a record $6.6 billion in Brazil from January to September 2025. This represents a 10.19 percent increase over the $6 billion recorded during the same period in 2024 and has significantly supported job creation, small businesses, and regional development.
Several factors are driving this performance, including stronger international promotion campaigns, an increase in flight routes, and concerts in Rio de Janeiro.
Embratur, Brazil’s tourism promotion agency, now projects that total arrivals for the full year will exceed 9 million, setting a new national record and further boosting the country’s economic outlook.
For comparison, global tourism growth has averaged between 3 and 5 percent, which is far below Brazil’s current pace. Meanwhile, the US saw a 3.1 percent decline in overseas arrivals in October 2025, reflecting persistent challenges in its travel sector.
