American Airlines Adds Free WiFi to All AAdvantage Members

American Airlines has announced a phased rollout of free high-speed WiFi for all AAdvantage loyalty program members, making American the US carrier with the largest number of free Wi-Fi-equipped flights.
Access and fleet coverage
The rollout will cover the airline’s narrowbody fleet as well as new Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 widebodies. The service is powered by Viasat and Intelsat satellite technology, with AT&T serving as the sponsoring partner.
The service will be available to all 130 million AAdvantage members, regardless of loyalty status. Members can log in instantly through the free program, enabling streaming, work, and general connectivity.
By year-end, approximately 90 percent of the fleet, including over 500 upgraded regional jets, will support the enhanced WiFi service.
Connectivity trends
The initiative positions American alongside Delta and United in offering widespread free WiFi, meeting growing passenger demand for constant connectivity.
The announcement also aligns with broader industry trends, including Air China’s recent order for 60 Airbus A320neo-family aircraft, which will be WiFi-ready to enhance premium services. Similarly, Hawaiian Airlines’ $600 million upgrade includes improved WiFi access and highlights the increasing emphasis on reliable in-flight connectivity across global carriers.
