Airbnb Airport Transfers Go Live to Keep Users In App

Airbnb has launched pre-booked private car transfers in more than 125 cities, giving guests a new way to arrange transport through its app.

The feature went live on March 31 through a partnership with Welcome Pickups, a Greece-based company that specializes in scheduled travel transfers.

How the new service works

The service allows travelers to book private rides between airports or train stations and their Airbnb. According to the company, the destination is filled in automatically, drivers are vetted, and arrival times are monitored so pickups can adjust if a flight or train is delayed.

The launch currently covers parts of Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

This is not an on-demand ride service like Uber. Airbnb is offering scheduled transfers only, mainly for airport and station pickups or drop-offs.

Prices are set by Welcome Pickups, and Airbnb says it does not add an extra fee.

Part of a broader travel platform strategy

The transfer launch builds on Airbnb’s expansion into Services and Experiences. Over the last year, the company has introduced offerings, such as chefs, prepared meals, massage, spa treatments, personal training, photography, hair, and makeup, while also relaunching Experiences and redesigning the app around the full trip.

Selective rollout with a bigger platform strategy

This launch is still limited in scale. The service is not yet available in the US, Canada, or Africa, which suggests Airbnb is expanding first in markets where Welcome Pickups already has a strong network.

Airbnb’s push into experiences and in-stay services showed that the company has been steadily building beyond its core home-rental model. The new airport transfer feature signals a larger plan to keep travelers inside the Airbnb ecosystem for more of the journey, not just the stay itself.
