Single supplement

A single supplement is an additional charge for solo travelers who occupy a hotel double room or cruise cabin designed for two people.

Solo travelers are seen as less profitable because they’re expected to spend less than pairs or groups during their stay. The single supplement helps vendors recoup what they believe they’d lose in ancillary sales from having fewer guests.

The single supplement fee can range from 10 to 100 percent of the standard rate.
