Breakage deposit

A breakage deposit (also known as a security deposit or damage deposit) is a refundable fee that some rental properties (hotels, vacation rentals, or other types of accommodations) charge as a guarantee that all the assets stay in good condition.

Guests/renters pay a breakage deposit before they move into the property. If there is property damage or loss during their stay, the deposit can be used to repair or replace what was deamaged or lost. It can also cover greater than usual cleaning expenses. If there were no issues during their stay, guests get the deposit money back.

This deposit protects the property owner from losing money if something gets damaged. At the same time, it encourages guests to be careful and responsible with the property they are renting.
